Once again we commissioned artist Damian King to work his “speed” design aesthetic. (We must have had twenty long conversations alone on the look and feel of our thirties racing car). If you like this tee, order one soon since Damian’s last design for us (a limited-edition t-shirt) sold-out within days.

Prototipo Chronograph By Autodromo http://megadeluxe.com/gear/prototipo-chronograph-by-autodromo?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=prototipo-chronograph-by-autodromo http://megadeluxe.com/gear/prototipo-chronograph-by-autodromo#comments Mon, 31 Mar 2014 18:19:47 +0000 http://megadeluxe.com/?p=33633 New Prototipo chronographs from Autodromo. I dig two things about Bradley Price and his company Autodromo. One, his encyclopedic knowledge of motorsport history – we go back and forth on Instagram and he never fails to add detail to a vintage car or race. Second, Autodromo: his racing inspired line of watches and accoutrements (gloves and sunglasses) are spot on in both detail and style. The Prototipo line continues on this path. Bradley just sent a recent Autodromo shoot from France. Jealousy ensues.

Prototipo Chronograph By Autodromo

“The Protoype Era in racing was a time that saw legendary drivers compete in equally legendary machines. Fast, colorful and dangerous, Prototype cars ushered in the modern technological age of endurance racing, and wrote the final chapter in the long tradition of open road racing in Europe.”

Prototipo Chronograph By Autodromo

The Prototipo draws aesthetic inspiration from vintage racing chronographs of the late ’60s and early ’70s, but with clean, modern detailing at every turn. Powered by an innovative Seiko hybrid meca-quartz movement, the Prototipo features a sweep second hand and instant chronograph reset thanks to internal mechanical linkages shared with Seiko’s in-house automatic movements. Prototipo delivers the reliability and precision of a quartz watch, with the crisp pusher feel and visual delight of a mechanical chronograph.

In addition to timepieces, Autodromo has a line of sunglasses (Stelvio) and racing gloves (Stringback Driving Gloves).

Red Wing Shoe Company – I Swear By Them http://megadeluxe.com/gear/the-legendary-red-wing-shoe-company?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-legendary-red-wing-shoe-company http://megadeluxe.com/gear/the-legendary-red-wing-shoe-company#comments Thu, 27 Mar 2014 17:15:55 +0000 http://megadeluxe.com/?p=33515 Once upon a time (about twenty years ago) I worked at Fedex loading planes. It was the most fun, dangerous (nice scar by my eye) and physically exhausting job I ever had: driving tugs and forklifts around multi-million dollar jets. Good gear was essential, in fact your life depended on it. Slipping off an icy platform was potential for great harm. It’s when I first started wearing steel-toed Red Wing boots. If you’ve ever worn Red Wings, you swear by them…might be the main reason I still have eleven toes.

SUPER-HOTROD

We were tired of daily routine of product photography and over past 6 months we have taken upon this concept as afterwork project. This is the first (of many more, we hope) outcome of our cooperation, and bit of “over the fence” method. I have designed the car on paper, and Jans made the model in 3D. This concept was done as a visual exercise and is a result of a long dispute inspired by YouTube “Roadkill” episode.

It was Rat rod vs Lamborghini Aventador, (more of attraction test than a review), but left us simply unable to pick sides.

We liked, and detested. Both in the same time. These, some what strange feelings led us not only to desire to clash genres but to look for a niche in which we could create brand new one.) We looked at it as a hybrid child of a misalliance of casts, forms, and purposes.

As a base, it was going to be heavily chopped, channeled and sectioned Ford Model “A”, but expressed through cutting edge, super car technology, and fine finish.

Leather cutting is a precise hands-on job that involves evaluating a leather hide and cutting from that hide specific pieces used to build a Red Wing boot. It is a job that requires a human touch and a discerning eye.

Recently we’ve been experimenting with rubber stamps to make our own t-shirts. But like Edison and the lightbulb, we had a few dozen spectacular failures. Now, using laser-cuts stamps, and an in-house secret ink recipe, we’ve nailed down the process. The cool thing: each time you ink up the rubber stamp, the tee comes out a little bit different. No two of these t-shirts will ever be the same, and we like it that way: perfect imperfection. Order one of these bad boys at our store…

For this auction, we decided to pick a few head-turning supercars that would have easily graced the streets of Monte Carlo back in the late Sixties.

Wikipedia: The Mangusta replaced the Vallelunga model, on which its chassis was based. The word “mangusta” is Italian for “mongoose”, an animal that can kill cobras. It was rumored that the car was so named because De Tomaso had some talks with Carroll Shelby to replace the Shelby Cobra with a racing car to be built in Italy by the Argentine-born De Tomaso, but no deal was signed since Shelby became involved in the Ford GT40 racing program.

Road & Track: The 5300 GT’s styling is gorgeous, and [Giotto] Bizzarrini’s friend Giorgetto Giugiaro at Bertone had a hand in it. The Strada was, as the name says, the street version with a full interior and creature comforts; a 5300 GT Corsa was aimed at racers. In full race tune, the 327 could reportedly belt out 400 hp, but the street version puts about 385 hp to the ground. The Rivolta’s [Iso Rivolta 300] four-wheel independent suspension is carried over, and it has four-wheel Dunlop disc brakes and a BorgWarner T-10 four-speed, meaning the powertrain can be serviced in your driveway after a trip to the NAPA. That’s not always the case with a Ferrari or Lamborghini.
