Tank Moto Launch Party This Weekend

So, it’s just a few days away. We officially launch our premiere issue of Tank Moto this weekend. Subscriptions have already gone out the door, so those lucky folks who got in early will be receiving copies in the next couple of days.
 
The event is going to be a great evening. We have many of the feature bikes from the first issue on display, there is stacks of motorcycle parking available outside Gasolina, and there will be great food and live music on the night. If you do plan to sample some of Gasolina’s fine culinary delights, make sure to book up a table with them to avoid disappointment. On top of all that, we’ve been hearing about lots and lots of people wanting to come down and socialise, so you’re guaranteed a fine crowd of like-minded people to hang out with.
 
Oh.. did we mention that the first 100 people through the door get a free copy of the mag..?

DSDV 3 Electric Upright Bass :: by Piotr Sell

The DSDV 3 Bass is shaped to suit a double bass player by maintaining the feel and playability of an acoustic instrument in a form that isn’t reduced to just the minimum interface. A sense of volume is given to it by the Möbius strip-like wing that delimits a virtual sound box. This feature isn’t required by an electric instrument to produce sound but the wing allows the player to rest the instrument on his or her body in an accustomed playing position. It gives the bass the right feel.
 
Although the bold silhouette of an acoustic double bass bears an expressiveness that can’t be achieved by a more compact electric instrument, with the DSDV 3 bass I wanted to experiment if an electric upright bass could become a distinctive, contemporary visual sign that speaks for itself, without loosing the familiar feel or its role of a tool for making music.

From Bradley at Automobiliac: Imagine you are sitting on the deck of the fabulous Villa D’Este, overlooking Lago di Como. It’s an overcast morning. You are enjoying your coffee, waiting for the sun to come out. You hear the crunching of gravel under tire, and turn to see a breathtaking Alfa 6C 2500 motoring slowly past to park by the lake. Then another identical car pulls beside the first one. Then another. Soon, you are looking at 5 glorious Villa D’Este Alfa Romeos parked neatly at the place where they were first shown to the public in 1952. Only 36 of these cars were made by Carozzeria Touring, and 5 of them are in front of you, as if they showed up just for you to photograph them. Sounds like a dream, right? Yet this actually happened to our friend Ben Clymer, who runs the well-regarded watch site Hodinkee. He was kind enough to share these gorgeous photos of that special moment.

This stunning Pocket Watch designed by People People is grabbing the attention of many with its super minimal approach. The designers behind the watch made a deliberate choice to develop a pocket watch rather than a wristwatch, the preferred modern approach of keeping time. They aimed to cite the evolution of the timepiece to primarily a personality statement worn less and less for practicality.

Made in Metal Motorcycles: We had a visit yesterday from a local chap named Andy on this rather interesting machine that he has built pretty much single handedly. It’s a bit marmite, but we loved it and just goes to show the capability of men in sheds. Engine is from a 2 litre Ford Granada, chassis and swinger (infact most of bike) is handmade. RD250 rear shocks, bandit tank. Lots of lovely little features such as Gas bottle knob for ignition switch, front emblem from an old door closer, nosering (to match the owners) on fairing…top work Andy…we love it, and thought it needed sharing.
