Bonhams to Sell Two Ex-Bill Lomas Royal Enfields

Talk about perfection on two wheels.

1946/47 Enfield-Jap 350/500

Heading Bonhams’ customary eclectic mix of motorcycles consigned to the second of its two annual collectors’ motorcycle sales at Stafford are two unique Royal Enfield racers built by former World Champion, the late Bill Lomas, which are offered for sale by the Lomas family. The first is a circa 1946 350/500cc JAP-engined ‘special’ (estimate £10,000-14,000) while the second is his famous twin-cam ‘250’. Built in 1949, the ‘cammy’ motor went into Bill’s successful 250cc Enfield racer and his excellent results on this machine led to offers of rides in Grands Prix and at the Isle of Man TT. He went on to win the 350cc World Championship for Moto Guzzi in 1955 and 1956 before retiring to run the family motorcycle business. The ‘250’ Enfield is currently fitted with its original pushrod engine but comes with the twin-cam motor (estimate £10,000-14,000).

I’m ignoring for now that these words have anything to do with design. I’m going with “it’s a sign.” To do less more often around the house. Which on this lovely Sunday in Oakland, I’m practicing with absolute exuberance.
