1930’s Six-day Bike Races :: via Reminisce

Reminisce: Six-day bike races have been described as among the most spectacular sporting events ever. They were a major attraction in this country from the early 1900s until the beginning of the Second World War.

The race was won by the team gaining the most points (laps) over its competitors during the continuous 144-hour grind. Points were awarded at regularly scheduled sprints. To signal the start of a sprint, a race judge would hold up a sign with the number 10. With each successive lap, he lowered the number by one.
