Bell45 & Unlimited Velocity Collaboration

By August 15, 2012Sports & Outdoors

A collaboration between reknowned Harley Davidson mechanic Satoshi Ogawa and the painter Hans Sures – a favorite amigo around here. This original painting of a Hacksaw (a play on the “chopping” of motorcycles and bikes) was accepted for the 2012 Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy in London.

“This spring he [Satoshi Ogawa] asked me if I could do him a painting of a Hacksaw which for him symbolizes the process the process of “chopping” motorcycles (and bicycles), he wanted to start an online shop selling products that would come about by collaborating with artists and craftsman from within his group of friends.”

Hans:
Hope you had a great time at the speed Week. I’ve got here something that might be interesting for you.

This spring I did a collaboration with Satoshi Ogawa of Bell45. Toshi (as he is called by everybody over here) is a London based Harley mechanic with an excellent reputation and also a true artist when it comes to any sort of metal work. He also has a keen interest in vintage bicycles, has amassed quite a number which he plannes to restore or as one of his next project turning (read “bobbing”) a 1930’s Triumph bicycle into a modern/fixed style citybike with very narrow handlebars, larger rear wheel … most of the finished bikes go to Japan.

This spring he asked me if I could do him a painting of a Hacksaw which for him symbolizes the process the process of “chopping” motorcycles (and bicycles), he wanted to start an online shop selling products that would come about by collaborating with artists and craftsman from within his group of friends.

To cut a long story short: the original painting was accepted for the 2012 Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy in London (which is now in its 244th year!). Toshi is now selling fine art prints of the Hacksaw through his online shop.

We are now planning to do a series of tools that are significant to the all the above.

Satoshi:
Hacksaw, Hack, Chop, Cut…this is the one of the important things to do when you are building chopper. Simple and Basic tool can do alot of things like chopping frame to cutting bolt to length etc, etc, it’s a must have tool in your garage. I had this image in my head for long time but I’m not a painter,I couldn’t make it real, but Hans Sures the great artist made it real. It came up much better than I had in my head, it’s so good! every time I see this it make my mind up towork on bikes. And this painting was picked by Royal Academy of arts for the 244th this summer exhibition. That was brilliant moment when I saw this painting in there. We made 1st edition of prints, and it’s
for sale now.
