Cutaway from article in Sports Cars Illustrated (January, 1958). Legendary race car driver Fangio test drove this V-12 Maserati and broke the lap record at Imola.
“The engine was dropped into a discarded ’56 chasis. Fantuzzi, coachbuilder for Maserati, beat out a rough body. A hole was cut into the hood for carburetor air intake, and the car was hurried off to the Modena Autodrome for testing. Fangio took it around for several laps. The Old Man just shook his head sadly.”
