Duke is the father of surfing. But he also was an Olympic swimmer, winning gold in the 1912 Stockholm Summer Olympics.

About this card:
Best remembered today as “The Father of Surfing,” this native Hawaiian first entered the public consciousness as the greatest swimmer the world had ever seen. In August 1911, at an amateur swim meet, Kahanamoku was timed at 55.4 seconds in the 100 yard freestyle, smashing the existing world record by over four and a half seconds. A year later he would claim the Gold Medal at the Stockholm Summer Olympics in the same event. This “Sport Kings” card of Kahanamoku dates to 1933 and is one of a precious few trading card appearances made by the talented athlete.
